Recognizing the Signs of Different Household Pests

Recognizing the Signs of Different Household Pests

Being able to recognize the warning signs of a pest infestation in your home can help you prevent minor problems from becoming much bigger ones. If you’re wondering if you may need professional pest control in Fort Lauderdale, then watch for these signs that can mean you may have pests in your house:

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are happy to infest just about any place where people can be found, including residences. These pests are about 1/4-inch long, are reddish-brown in color, and have a flat, oval-shaped body before they feed, which swells up after they enjoy a blood meal. If you have bed bugs in your home, then you might wake up to find small red bumps on your body or little blood stains on your sheets. On your mattresses, you may find crushed bed bugs, live bed bugs, or bed bug excrement, which looks like little dark spots.

Rodents

Many people only wonder if they may have a rodent infestation after seeing a live mouse or rat in their home. By the time you see the rodents, you may already need professional pest control. For this reason, you can benefit from watching for the signs of mice or rats living in your home. Some of these signs include unpleasant odors, rodent tracks, and nests made from fabric, paper products, and other debris. Also, check your walls, including behind furniture, for small holes that have been chewed open as entry points. Finally, be on the lookout for rodent droppings around your home and gnaw marks on your food containers.

Cockroaches

If there is a cockroach problem in your home, then you’ll probably be able to find their droppings, which can be small and pepper-like in appearance or somewhat larger and cylindrical. Also, if you find the bodies of dead cockroaches in your home, this can also signal that there are more than a few of these pests living in your home. Finally, consider calling a pest exterminator if you see roaches in the daytime, which can indicate that an infestation is already underway.
